Asia is the world’s largest continent. The Plateau of Tibet between Himalayas and Kunlun is the largest and highest plateau of the world. Pamir Plateau in Central Asia is known as ‘the roof of the world’. Rice is the most important crop of Asia. 90% of the world’s rice is produced in Asia.
1. Pakistan:- The main ranges of Pakistan are Kirthar, Sulaiman and Hindu Kush. These ranges together with the Himalayas separate the Indian sub-continent from the rest of Asia. Khyber and Bolan pass are the part of these ranges. The Indus flows from north to south and ended to the Arabian Sea forming delta. The rivers Ravi, Beas, Sutlej, Chenab and Jhelam are its tributaries. The Indus, in its lower flows through the Thar Desert. Main occupation in Pakistan is agriculture. This is known as ‘the country of Canals’. It has the largest network of Canals in the world. Wheat is the main cereal. Karachi is the largest city and an industrial and trade center. Islamabad is the capital.
2. Nepal:- It is known as ‘Himalayan Kingdom’. The Great Himalayan Range, which’ is the highest range of the Himlayas having the largest peak of the world as Everest passes along the northern border of Nepal. The Gurkhas, the Sherpas and the Bhotias are the major groups of people living in Nepal. The Sherpas are among the best mountaineers and the Gurkhas are among the best soldiers in the world. Their capital is Kathmandu.
3. Bhutan:- This is situated on the northern border of India and the capital is Thimpu.
4. Bangladesh:- On three sides Bangladesh has. a common border with India. Rice is the major cereal and jute is an important, cash crop for them. There national language is Bangla. Chitagong is the major sea port. It occupies the ‘major port of the world’s largest delta, namely the Ganga-Brahmaputra delta. Its capital is Dhaka.
5. Burma (Myanmar):- It is a country of beautiful pagodas, the temples dedicated to Lord Buddha. Rangoon is the largest town and it is the capital city. Mandley was its old capital.
6. Sri Lanka:- Sri Lanka is called ‘The Pearl of the East’. India and SriLanka have no land boundary. The palk straight in the Indian ocean separates Sri Lanka from India.. The people of Sri Lanka do not drink tea but they export it. Pearl fishing is practised in the Gulf of Manner. Colombo is the capital.

8. Indonesia:- Here was a Volcano, Krakatoa which erupted in 1883 and become a small island with a lake. It is the largest producer of Cinchona in the world. Cinchona is the source of malaria medicine quinine. Jakarta is the capital and Bandung is an other important city.
9. China:- The people’s republic of China is the largest country of the world. Sikiang, Chang Jiang and Hwang Ho river is called the ‘Yellow River’ also. China stands first in the silk production in the world.
10. Japan:- Japan is known as ‘Land of the Rising Sun’. It is also known as the ‘Country of Islands’ and ‘Land of Volcanoes and Earth Quakes’ as well. Mount Fuji of Japan is a volcanic mountain. This has been inactive. Japan is a well known industrial country. Japan depends on its international trade for its prosperity. Japan leads the world in the productivity of raw silk from mulberry trees. Capital is Tokyo. The highways of Japan are the best in Asia. The Japanese people are among the world’s best fishermen.
