CTET Child Pedagogy Psychology Notes - The word psychology is derived from two Latin words psyche + Logus.Psyche means soul, Logus means science.
Definitions of Psychology
Kolesnik W.B. - “Psychology is the science of human behaviour.”Skinner C.E. - “Psychology deals with reactions to every kind of situations that life precsents. By response of behaviour is meant all forms of reactions, adjustments, activities and experiences.
Fundamental Characteristics of Psychology
- Positive science- Psychology is a positive science. In it, the effect of action-reaction, causes and effect relationship and consequences can be observed.
- Cognitive science- In psychology, such cognitive activities, as, remembering, imagination, forgetting, emotions and sensations are studied.
- Psychological being- Psychology studies the individual as a psychological being.
- Related to environment- Psychology is related to the environment. It also studies to the response of the environment. It makes a study of man’s physical and social behaviour.
- Studies human and animal, both- Psychology studies the behaviour of not only of human beings, but also of animals.
What is Education?
Kolesnik- “Education is the development of the inherent human powers of potentialities.”Mahatma Gandhi- “By education, I mean, an all-round drawing out of the best in the child and man-body, mind and spirit.”
